Why I Started Boat Goat Captain Service!

Five years ago, I earned my USCG Captain’s License with the goal of becoming a bowfishing guide. I quickly discovered how much I loved taking people out on the water—chasing fish, creating memories, and sharing experiences that would last a lifetime.

That license soon opened the door to something even bigger: running charters on the Lake of the Ozarks. I’ll never forget my first charter. I was nervous, but from the moment we left the dock, I knew I had found what I was meant to do. I fell in love with the work and the people, and a year later, I made one of the best decisions of my life—selling the bowfishing business and moving to the lake full-time so I could focus on running charters.

It turned out to be the best move for both my wife, Michelle, and me. Before long, I was on the water almost every day during the season. I was blessed to meet incredible people, build lasting relationships, and develop a strong network of captains and professionals who shared the same passion for doing things the right way.

 Last year, I was honored to be voted Missouri's Best  Boat Captain. This recognition truly means the world to me, and I am incredibly proud and grateful for it. I strive every day to live up to that standard and to continue providing the highest level of professionalism, safety, and service on the water.

As the business grew, I found myself frequently having to tell people, “I’m sorry, I’m already booked.” That’s when I realized there was a real need for a better, more reliable way for visitors to find qualified, professional captains.

That idea became Boat Goat Captain Service —a network of fully USCG-licensed and insured captains dedicated to providing safe, professional, and memorable experiences on the Lake of the Ozarks.

Instead of renting a boat first and then scrambling to find a captain, we flipped the process. We help guests secure a qualified captain first, then assist them in finding the right boat rental near where they’re staying. Simple, seamless, and stress-free.

While building and running the company has been incredibly rewarding, what I love most is still the same: being on the lake, meeting new people, and giving them an unforgettable day on the water. I’m also proud to support fellow Captains who are committed to getting properly licensed and operating at the highest professional standards.
